Mbali Radebe wins the Best Community Leader of the year Award in Diepkloof

Mbali Radebe is one of the most influential key role players as an activist within her community and she eventually got nominated and won the Best Community Leader of the year award that was hosted

by the Diepkloof Community Radio on 22 October 2022.

The Diepkloof Radio Awards in conjunction with the Diepkloof Community Radio were held at the Diepkloof Welfare Centre and had other categories such as the Artist of the year, School of the year, Fashion Designer of the year and NGO of the year. The voting process was conducted via WhatsApp and Facebook social media platforms and Mbali was voted among the other five contenders.

Miss Radebe is known for her undying spirit of Ubuntu that she reveals by fighting for the rights of the poor and also serving as a youth activist in the Diepkloof community. Her activism career started some time ago in her early youth stage till to date.

” I have embarked and led a lot of marches, with the hope to see my community and its people get better service delivery and local employment opportunities” elaborated Radebe .

Recently she led the community to the construction site of the Orlando Towers Construction next to the Bara mall to submit a memorandum to the site Manager of the Rubex construction company.

Within the memorandum there were issues such as the establishment of a Labour Desk to avoid corruption and the lack of transparency in terms of employment drive within the aforesaid project. Furthermore, the memorandum stipulated that the community demand 15% profit share from the project in order to support community development programs, to have a skills development and/or bursaries that will equip its beneficiaries with Infrastructure Development expertise.

The 27-year-old is currently studying toward an Electrical Engineering qualification in a male dominated

industry but because of her bravery and passion, she decided to follow her heart.

Her bravery and commitment to the struggle of fighting for the people resembles the one of uMama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela during the apartheid era.

At the moment, the community should be advised to liaise with Miss Radebe to get some feedback from Rubex Construction as they were given 14 working days to respond to their memorandum as of from the 18th of October 2022.
