Ward 30 Councillor Mohau Molefe convened a Public meeting on the 17th May 2022 at the YMCA Hall in Orlando East.
The main aim of the meeting was to allow the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) to present their plan for the construction of a Sport Facility project that will be built at the No.1 Ground (Rugby Ground).
The meeting was successful and everyone was satisfied with the presentation. Residents got a chance to ask questions directly to the JDA representatives and were happy with the responses.
The Sport Facility is schedule to begin construction early next year (2023), the facility promises to include 400m running track, Tennis Court, Soccer Field, Athletics, Boxing, Recording studio and a Storage for sporting equipment.
This project was previously disrupted by the members of the community, because they complained that there was no transparency and there was no proper consultation. This led to the project being put on hold.
The community gave the project a go ahead and promised to support the developers all the way.
Small business owners will also get an opportunity to rent the business stalls that will be built alongside the Sports Facility.
Follow up meetings are still going to be held with the community in the coming months.
