New Multi-Sport Court transforms Vulamazibuko Primary School

There is a new sense of pride and excitement at Vulamazibuko Primary School following the completion of a world-class multi-sport court on the 5th April 2026. The multi-sports court was donated by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, this impressive facility has instantly elevated the school’s sporting environment, positioning it among the best-equipped primary schools in Soweto.

As I walked around the grounds, the first thing that stood out was the striking blue playing surface, neatly marked for multiple sporting codes and enclosed by high fencing, creating a safe, modern and professional space for learners.

The court is a versatile, multi-purpose sports complex designed to accommodate soccer, basketball, netball, and tennis, giving learners access to a wide range of sporting opportunities in one place.

The smooth, high-quality surface, combined with clearly defined lines, sturdy goalposts and basketball hoops, reflects a serious investment in youth development. (Watch the video below)

Even the finishing touches, like the clean artificial grass edging and solid structure, give the facility a polished, top-tier feel. This is more than just a sports court — it is a platform for developing talent, discipline, and confidence among young learners.

I sat down with the school’s principal, Mr. Maths Henry Matemane, in an interview, where he expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the development. “We are truly grateful to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and especially Ward Councillor Sithembiso Mashinini for facilitating this initiative and making it possible for our school to be selected,” he said.

He added that the court will play a key role in helping learners excel in various sporting codes, while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Importantly, he highlighted that the facility will be open to the community, inviting local youth to come and make use of the space.

This development is a powerful reminder of the progress being made in Soweto schools. Facilities like this show that local schools are investing in quality infrastructure that supports both education and holistic development.

For parents considering where to enrol their children, Vulamazibuko Primary School is setting a strong example of what is possible. With a facility of this standard now ready for use, the future of sport and youth development in Diepkloof is looking brighter than ever.
