Fire crisis hits Soweto schools, another school gutted just days apart

In the early hours of Sunday morning the 30th of June 2024, Ipolokeng Primary School in Diepkloof Zone 3 became the latest victim in a string of alarming incidents plaguing Soweto schools. Thieves broke into the school, to steal tables and chairs before setting one of the classrooms ablaze. This marks the second school fire in Soweto within a week.


The community responded quickly, apprehending one suspect who is now in police custody. The suspect is expected to provide vital information that could lead to the capture of any accomplices and shed light on the motive behind these attacks.
